Dr. Chad Hivnor is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive experience in medical, surgical, and laser dermatology. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the treatment of traumatic scars, burns, and other complex skin conditions, and is deeply committed to advancing patient care through clinical innovation and research. His formal education and training include:
- United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO) – BS, Biochemistry (Distinguished Graduate)
- University of Texas Health Science Center (San Antonio, TX) – Doctor of Medicine
- Wilford Hall Medical Center (San Antonio, TX) – General Surgery Internship
- University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) – Dermatology Residency
Dr. Hivnor is currently the Chief of Dermatology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Previously, he served as the Chief of Research and Laser Dermatology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium as a Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve. He has held leadership positions at multiple military medical centers and has been instrumental in developing laser therapies for wounded service members.
He has authored or co-authored multiple publications and textbook chapters, and his research has been featured in JAMA Dermatology, Cutis, Archives of Dermatology, and Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Hivnor is the recipient of several honors, including the USAF Paul Myers Award (Physician of the Year) and San Antonio Business Journal’s Health Care Hero Award, which he received twice.
In his spare time, Dr. Hivnor enjoys hunting, running, reading, and riding his tractor. His favorite part of his job is treating patients and helping solve problems. He hopes to one day own a hunting ranch for wounded warriors and, if he were not a dermatologist, he would enjoy serving as a youth coach.
